distorted image and ED thoughts - March 24th 2015, 10:23 PM

I have not acted on my bulimia or my anorexia side of EDNOS in over a month. But every time I look in the mirror or see a picture I look bigger than I am like 2x the weight I am now. I hate it...It makes me want to purge or stop eating. I hate this so much. It's like I just want to give in and do my behaviors and yeah but i just don't know. I need someone who is going through this to talk too.

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Re: distorted image and ED thoughts - March 25th 2015, 03:33 AM

Hey there,

When you have an ED it is normal for things like this to happen. It distorts the image you have of yourself. That's why I try not to look at myself in the mirror too much (which might not be the most healthy way of handling it) and when I do look at myself in the mirror I always tell myself that the image I am seeing is not as bad as I am imagining. Reframing your thoughts and reminding yourself that you are perfect just the way you are might be helpful. Reminding yourself that those images that you are seeing are most likely distorted due to your ED might be helpful as well.

If you feel like you are going to act on your urges try reaching out to someone. Call a hotline or something like that. I know I called a hotline once and it helped a bit. The hotline I called wasn't as equipped to deal with an ED but they tried and it helped to a certain extent.

I hope this helped and I am wishing you the best of luck.
