Question Trouble with parents - November 9th 2015, 09:12 PM

So, I've known I was Bisexual for about a year now, but then I found out this. My father is STRONGLY against Gay, lesbians and Bisexuals. He doesn't have any religion that I know of I guess he just is. He refuses to listen to people that have that sexuality either. My mother, I still don't know about. She's generally the jokey, nice type of mum but can get very serious about some things. I'm unsure of how they will take it, but I think its something they should know. If I keep it in any longer, they'll probably find out themselves and i'll be in a pit of absolute ...
Any suggestions?
(I might add, it's gonna be pretty rough anyway because of social anxiety)

Hey there,

I think the first thing you may want to remember before you come out is your safety. Will you be safe in the house if you come out? You said that your dad is against the LGBT+ community, but will he do anything to harm you if he finds out you are bisexual? Or will he do anything like neglect you or kick you out? I am in no way saying that he will, but I am making sure that if this does happen you have another place you can go, at least for a little while while things cool down a bit.

Maybe in terms of your mom you can always bring up the LGBT+ community in conversation, such as a celebrity that recently came out. Her reaction may at least tell you a little bit about how she feels?

If you really do want to come out to them I would do it on a day when they are in a relatively good mood in a private place with few distractions. Plan out what you want to say first, and maybe print out information on what it means to be bisexual. That way they at least have information on what it means. If you think things would get heated I'd bring someone with you that may be able to calm things down, or even do it in a public setting.

You can also write them a letter explaining everything, because that allows you to get everything out without nerves or interruptions getting in the way.

You can do this!
