question about ED - June 30th 2016, 12:28 AM

i have a question. Isnt an ED just when someone meets the criteria for one or severely struggles with food and eating and weight loss?

For example, i have struggled with every single anorexia warning sign for several months now. i havent eaten in days bc i dont want to gain weight. i try to do three or four hrs of fitness every day. i can lose edited a day doing this and that makes ne happy. i just want to feel skinny no matter if my goals r underweight. people say im thin but i dont see why. when i do have to eat, i spit it out into a non see-through cup so i can avoid gaining weight. plus many other signs such as purging (or at least i try anyway).

ive always classified this obsession as Ana but never offically been diagnosed. is ana self diagnosable or does a doctor have to say u have it?

Hey Cheyenne, I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with this. Self-diagnosis is never a good idea, but with the advent of Google, people do it and it's easy when you meet several signs that you can find within a few seconds. So, a medical or mental health professional has to diagnose you, especially if you want to get the right treatment. It's still possible to struggle with something even if you don't meet the set criteria, the criteria determine mostly the label and who pays for treatment, so you can still have a problem without having the criteria, they would just call it something else.

Hey there,

You can definitely suffer from an eating disorder but in order for that to be confirmed you have to have it diagnosed by a doctor. The best person to go to for a diagnosis is someone that works in the mental health field such as a counselor or a psychiatrist.

Best of luck.
