Really getting myself in a state over loss skin - March 10th 2018, 12:46 PM

I don't think I have loss skin but I am worried about the potential of it because of my history with eating disorders.

For the last year or so in a half I have issues where I go and binge a load of weight on and then go and loss a lot of weight by barely eating it's something I struggle with post anorexia recovery. Now my question is how does loss skin happen? What causes it? Is it only something when people loss lots and lots and lots of weight? I have been in this cycle for like a year and a half and I don't think I have noticed any as of yet. I am very worried about my tattoos I have tattoos on my knees and both of my arms. Is it possible to get loss skin on the knees? On the arms?

I have very little knowledge of this and I struggle with pretty bad anxiety and I worry so I am hoping I can get some useful input?

I've heard that loose skin happens when you lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time. It can also happen when you are older, because your skin can lose the 'elasticity'/stretchiness, so it can become loose and saggy slightly. I assume it can happen all over the body, but if you haven't noticed it, then I wouldn't worry about it too much

It hapens when you are really overweight and loose weight rapidly, so it probably doesn't apply to you. But with time skin won't be as flexible so you should be careful with the rapid gain and drop in weight.

This is pretty spot on.

I know you are worried about loose skin but I am wondering if the worry is more a product of your ED? I think sometimes the ED voice can try and make you worry about things. I know it's hard but it might be helpful if you talk to a counselor about these thoughts. I know you had a treatment team at some point are you still with them? If so maybe they could help with your anxiety and worry pertaining to the ED.
