Eating everything and not eating nothing - May 8th 2018, 07:11 PM

So when I'm upset or angry, I will go to the store and buy my favorite snacks (I will buy about 6 bags) and I'll just chow down. If I have a fight with a friend or family, I will either eat little to nothing for months or eat so much. Even then when I do eat a lot I will throw it up because I feel sick or end up forcing myself to throw up because I feel I'm getting too fat (even though I just ate).

Honestly I haven't thought much about it being a problem, but I've noticed lately that I'll have 5 servings of dinner and everyone else will be on their 2 plate still. I feel so ashamed that I eat so much and I usually feel better when I don't eat at all.

Of course I have days where I eat normally and get good sleep and exercise and I feel okay, but then the next day I'll go back to eating or not eating.

Is this a problem? If so, how do I stop? I want to feel normal when sitting at the dinner table or with my friends. I hate being the one to have 3 bags of treats just for myself and to be the one to excuse myself to go to the bathroom and get everything out of my system.

When the world drags you down, roll over and smell the roses.

Hello,

The fact that you are doing this is quite concerning. It does sound like you have disordered eating patterns. It would probably be a good idea to try and talk to a professional about what you are going through. I know you aren't close to your parents and they are not great to you but if it's safe maybe you could talk to them or the counselors at your school. I know opening up about this will be hard but it's probably the best way for you to try and get help.

I think that some things you could try is identifying the emotions you are feeling when you partake in these activities. That might help you figure out ways to try and get to a better place and ways to find alternatives for the behavior. For example, anger causes me to feel really unsafe so I have had to find alternatives to dealing with my anger and I do that by looking at the Alternatives and Coping Methods. I think that going to a therapist is your best bet because they can try and help you figure things out. Also, I think a dietitian could help you implement a meal plan so that you are eating three meals a day and a few snacks. I found that when I had a meal plan my desire to partake in activities such as bingeing decreased. I don't know if that works for everyone.

I hope that this helped in some way and if you need anything feel free to message me.
