Talking to my mom/ triggers/ ED - May 9th 2018, 11:58 PM

My mom also struggles with an eating disorder as well as I do. Iím working with a therapist to recover and Iím making a lot of progress. However; it is very triggering when my mom says certain things about food and she is very underweight. I feel like Iím always competing with her and we never even spend time with each other anymore. Itís starting to irritate me. On Saturday, I will be duscussing this with my mom. I need to know how to talk to her without being triggering or upsetting and I need to make sure it is respectiful. Any advice?

Hello, I am sorry that you are having a hard time with this and I hope that you will be okay soon. Can you try writing a letter to you're mom and putting in this how you have been feeling with everything and how she also is going through this too. And let her know that you would like to talk with her about this and other things also. And see what she says back to you. Sometimes when parents are going through something they may forget that we still need them for things too. And see what happens next. See if she also would like to hang out with you and play some games or watch a movie together or draw. Let her know that you want to do things with her. And say when you are talking with her that you want to talk calmly with her and not get upset. I wish you the best.
