ED treatment - April 20th 2010, 09:27 PM

I've been looking into ED treatment centers and have found one that really seems to fit my needs perfectly. And I've talked to my insurance, and the out of pocket expense wouldn't be very much. So I've done all my research but now is the time to talk to my mom about it. I'm completely terrified. I'm really good at hiding it, so I wonder if she'll think I'm being over-dramatic about this by wanting intensive treatment. But I know I need this. I guess I'm just wondering how to bring this up to my mom. We never talk about anything, so to talk about something as big as this seems impossible to me. I'm really scared.

Hey! I think its a very brave step that your taking and kudos to you! Perhaps you might find it easier writing a letter explaining exactly what the treatment is, why you think you need it, why you think it will be beneficial.. She might be shocked at first and not know how to deal with it but hopefulli she will be supportive and whatever happens in the end I wish you the best of luck with.

The letter is a great idea. Just remember that she is your mom and she loves you. Best of luck.

Writing a letter, as Ellie said, might be a good idea. You could just try talking to her. She might even already know that you have an eating disorders, sometimes mothers jut tend to try to let us figure it out on our own, or they don't know how to help. Just be honest with her, tell her why you think you need this treatment, and that you really want help. Good luck.

She whispered to her own reflection "I will be strong."

"I am not what has happened to me.I am what I have chosen to become."- Carl Jung

"If ye harm none, do as ye wish."

Sometimes things just happen.

Smile through the tears.

Hey there,

I think it is great that you are considering seeking treatment. I think writing a letter to your mom would be a great idea.

I was wondering which ED treatment center you were looking into? I am not trying to be nosy and if you don't feel like telling me that is cool. Another thing I was wondering is if you called the place you were thinking of going to and get some information on them. Sometimes it helps to hear from an actual person when it comes to stuff like that. When I went to treatment I had a lot of questions and I didn't ask them until I entered the program and it was kind of a mistake in a way.

Anyway, good luck!!
