PLEASE help me? -
November 18th 2010, 07:25 AM
Any advice or support is welcomed.
I know i don't have a diagnosed eating disorder, but i have trouble getting an appetite. Usually i only eat one meal a day on average. Sometimes 2. And the second meal isn't very big. I really want to gain the weight i need in order to be healthy but it seems like i don't know "how" to be hungry. Its really frustrating and makes me breakdown a lot of times, because honestly i don't want anything bad happening to me. :| How do i gain weight? and become more hungry? I'm at a loss and i don't know what to do!

I really don't know the answer towards becoming more hungry, but for the weight thing just eat more. Don't eat fatty food ect. because then you'll gain wait AND be unhealthy. So do generally good and healthy food, but more of it.
I think that you need to tell an adult about this, tell a school counselor, and just tell someone. They can help you towards eating more. But you can't just depend on them, you will have to do most of the work. They will just assist you and be a support. I hope I helped. Feel free to message me at any time. <3 ![]() |

Hey there,
I would suggest you designate times where you eat and don't stray from that time. When I was in treatment for my Eating Disorder we had a strict eating schedule and it helped the people (such as myself) who didn't really have an appetite eat. There are a number of reasons that people do not have appetites but the only sure fire way to overcome that is by making yourself eat. You might not be hungry when you do it but with time your body should start to register some hunger queues again. In treatment we ate 3 meals and 3 snacks a day so a our schedule looked something like this. 7:30 Breakfast 10:30 AM snack 12:00 Lunch 3:30 Afternoon snack 6:00 Dinner 8:30 Evening snack. Of course, you can change this schedule to better fit your needs but designate times in which you eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and try not to stray. It might help you build up an appetite and it will ensure that you are getting the necessary nutrients your body needs. There could never be amore beautiful you
Don't buy the lies, disguisesandhoops they make you jump through You were made tofill a purposethat only you could do So there could never be amore beautiful you -Johnny Diaz Everyday is so wonderful And suddenly it's hard to breathe Now and then I get insecure From all the pain, I feel so ashamed I am beautiful no matter what they say Words can't bring me down I am beautiful in every single way Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no So don't you bring me down today To all your friends you're delirious So consumed in all your doom Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is? 'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say Words can't bring you down, oh no You are beautiful in every single way Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no So don't you bring me down today -Christina Aguilera |

Honestly, i have always been really small.
Now, i am really underweight though. But i never "don't eat" on purpose. When i am hungry i eat. Yeah i have self image issues, but i don't think i am fat.. its basically because of my teeth, other then that im happy with my body

Yeah, I understand, but definitely go talk to your doctor when you can, because being that thin, could be bad..

I really think you should see a doctor and ask him how you can improve. One way you can start is by approaching this situation with a positive attitude. Sometimes we give up and need someone to help us up, but that's okay because it's possible. But first you should start by being honest with yourself as to how you can achieve your goal, then say, "Okay I can do this little by little". And take the steps toward healing and don't give up!
I hope it works out very well for you!

You could always drink or smoke weed if you need a bigger appetite
jkI'd definitely recommend seeing a doctor, and a dietitian if possible. I don't know a lot about eating disorders, but until you're able to get health insurance I'd recommend a balanced diet that's fairly high (~25-30% of total calories) in unsaturated fat. My reasoning is that fat contains 9 calories per gram of weight compared to 4 for protein and carbohydrates. I've had weight problems in the past (overweight), and I usually eat more total calories when the food is high in fat, salt, or sugar, the body's natural cravings. Saturated and trans fats, found mostly in dairy products, red meat and processed foods, should only be eaten in moderation. The fat in fish, eggs, nuts, olive oil, etc. is a much healthier choice. Carbs: I've eaten whole grains to the point where I no longer like white bread or rice. The carbohydrates in whole grains, fruits and beans are often referred to as "complex," and are generally healthier than the refined sugars in junk food. Unfortunately, the fiber in these foods makes you feel full quicker, but I think whole grains and fruits are necessary to a healthy diet. Protein: Lean meats (chicken, pork, lamb, fish etc.) are good choices for omnivores, vegetarians can find protein in dairy, nuts, seeds, legumes, etc. Oh, and veggies are good...I need to keep reminding myself of this ![]() Hope this helps! |

The scheduled meals are probably your best bet. I forget the calculation for figuring out how much you would eat to safely gain the weight you would want for the average person. However, generally it is increasing caloric intake will do it.
Maybe planning out meals for the entire week or even four days would help. That way you won't have to sit there and try to think ten minutes before your next time you are "scheduled" to eat. |
