Scared I may be developing a disorder... -
July 23rd 2011, 03:38 AM
I used to be constantly hungry, and most of the time I would still put off eating sometimes out of laziness. Now I'm not hungry as often and whenever I eat, at first I'm fine, but then I feel sick, and most of the time, just looking at food makes my stomach hurt. I've lost a few pounds and it worries me because I want to eat; I'm not trying to starve myself or anything. Could it just be part of me growing? I'm only 13, but usually when you grow, you eat a lot, don't you? I'm just really unsure...

First of all it may be partially that you are going though puberty, although I struggled with my eating disorder throughout all puberty I've been through I would find that even normally when I'd go through a growth spurt I'd eat more but after I'd eat less than normal and be full. So everyone develops differently. But if it concerns you maybe you should talk to a doctor and have them do some kind of evaluation so they could diagnose you if you do have an eating disorder.

There is a large psychological component that plays a major factor in eating disorders. As you may know, eating disorders are almost never just about the actual eating. If you are struggling to develop healthy eating habits due to physical reasons, it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor. There may be an underlying physical issue that causes you to feel sick. If this is the case, your best bet would be to address this concern with your doctor and he can help you figure out ways you can get all the nutrition you need daily, such as through additional supplements like meal replacement shakes, if necessary.
Hope this helps. x |
