Controlled by food and completely sick of it. - September 24th 2011, 10:12 PM

I guess technically I'm a binge eater... I was just wondering if someone who's been through this (or is going through it) could give me some advice on what's worked for you. It seems every time I'm determined to stop, I just do it more. Ugh, I'm so tired of being self destructive, and hating myself every minute.

I have the same problem.

What you want to do is restrict food, and portion it. Keep the sweets and fatties away from you, try to buy less of those and more of fiber and fruit. Drink water, not soda/coffee. When you feel the desire to eat, chew on gum. The juice your saliva produces will satiate you for a while. As long as it keeps you from eating.

Otherwise, you could try having small snacks through the day. Just little munchies, chex mix, a piece of sliced fruit, anything small that will just satisfy your food needs.

I'm going through a cycle of binge eating.
In order for me to control it I go to the grocery store and I buy healthy foods (fruit, veggies, reduced fat & low calorie snacks) and foods that help me feel fuller (fiber bars, protein bars, etc.) and I make sure I limit my daily intake, not to the point of starvation, but no more than the suggested amount of calories a day.
Then if I feel like eating more and more I drink a massive amount of water.
In conclusion, avoid fatty foods when binging and try eating healthier foods to make it so it's not that bad.
Good luck and if you find anything else that works for you, please let me know.

Yeah, and let me know as well!

The toughest thing for me is that my mom gives me food to take back to my condo with me. -_- So annoying, I'm like "mom, I have plenty of food!"

Hey , you are most certainly not alone, I too binge eat and I find the only way to abstain is to either graze continuously on healthy things (like fruit, vegies, etc.) and drink fluids. I drink alot of diet softdrink which probably isnt too healthy but it helps with annoying cravings. Also lately in the house there has been no junkfood whatsoever which is annoying whilst bingeing but ultimately is good because your not eating copious amounts of junk. So if possible, try to limit the amount of bad food in your house. Lastly, KEEP BUSY! food is such a distraction and if you keep your mind and body busy doing other things you can steer clear of the 'wanting to eat' thoughts. But anyway, don't worry I too often hate myself and get very depressed over my eating and things but it helps to be able to vent. Stay as positive as possible oh yeah and pm me anytime if you want.

Overcoming binge eating can be really difficult. As well as any type of Eating Disorder. And yes, binge eating is a type of eating disorder. What you should do, is set a daily meal plan. Include filling, yet HEALTHY foods. Such as things that are high in fiber. Include lots of fruits and vegies in your meal plan. It will really help. And honestly, if you feel like binging, fill up on fruits and vegies..because they're healthy. But the important thing is getting you out of your rituals and habits. Another thing you should consider doing is seeing a nutritionist. They can plan a healthy diet for you that you're comfortable with. The only thing you have to do is follow it. And that can be extremely difficult. But things like this take effort. And Rome wasn't built in a day. ;] Take care.
