Am I Anorexic? - April 17th 2012, 09:50 AM

well lately i haven't been eating. but its not like, i want to lose weight so i just stopped. and i definitely get hungry. i can feel it when i get home from school. its just like, when i get hungry, the act of eating seems very unappealing. i just dont want to do it. so i go almost the whole day not eating and then have something small when i get home. if im reading the scale right, it would seem that ive lost about (edited) pounds this past week (i've been exercising more too). is this weight loss something i should be excited about? i just dont know if this is considered anorexia

Hi there Kaitlyn,

Losing that much weight in a week is unbelievably unhealthy and dangerous. We aren't doctors, and we can't diagnose you with anything, but if you continue doing what you are doing right now, and not eating enough, it sounds like you're on the slidey slope to Anorexia.

I strongly urge you to tell someone you trust about this, right now. It might seem like you can control this, but trust me, it gets out of hand very quickly. If you continue to starve your body like this, you'll get seriously ill, then die. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm trying to stop you from going any further with this. I know eating might seem unappealing, but you need food to live. Stick to a routine with food, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper, and small snacks in between if you get hungry.

Please tell someone. You need help before this gets worse. Write a letter, talk to a parent, anything. I told my head of year first, because I found him easiest to talk to.

Anorexia isn't glamorous. Your hair falls out, you become constantly cold. Your periods stop, and you become infertile. Your heart beat slows, and your body uses less calories to keep you alive. You become constipated and irritable. Your mood takes a nose dive and it feels like you're trapped in a dark hole and you can't get out. People don't understand what's wrong, think you're disgusting for not eating while kids starve. They laugh at you, tease you. They don't know this is an illness. I could keep going on like this, I could tell you all the gory, disgusting things Anorexia has done to my body, to my life. But I don't want to trigger you further.

Please, stop this before it's too late. Don't go down this path, it leads straight to hell. Stay strong, tell someone, and know we're always here for you. You aren't alone. If you need someone to talk to I'm here.

-Laura

Hi Kaitlyn,

I completely agree with everything Laura said. You are in time to change this, don't let yourself into that way because I assure you your life will become hell. It is absolutely necessary to eat healthy to keep a healthy body and mind, disordered eating has terrible consequences and the worst are the psychological ones...

I completely agree with the above posts, you do not want to go down this path.
Tell someone and ask for advice and get help to start wanting to eat again! This is not a good thing.

I hope all goes well.
