Hi thebigman
Some effective tips and hope they work for you.
Do exercise daily and early morning. Create a sleeping schedule, avoid taking naps in day timing and avoid over sleep. Watch what you eat and avoid alcohol, caffeine and other stimulants.

Your body 'gets used' to sleeping pills over time. You should avoid taking them unless you feel that you absolutely have to.

Food patterns and diet can also affect sleeping patterns from my experience. A lot of people overlook that. But how it affects sleeping patterns varies greatly from person to person and is difficult to predict, even for myself. Up to a certain amount of food, I'll find sleeping straight after difficult. Beyond that certain amount of food, I'll feel exhausted. It can also make me feel cold.

Daylight, or any light for that matter, affects sleeping patterns too. Try not to stare at a computer screen before going to bed. Dim the lights in your room about an hour before going to bed. That kind of stuff.

Also do some activities that help to exhaust you during the day. I usually do a hell a lot of exercise and stuff. That really helped to keep my sleeping routine in check. During exams it all went to shit of course. My last exam is next Wednesday and I'm trying to get back on track.

And actually... energy drinks and such things can be used to your advantage. But it's a bit risky. If you quickly drink a can of 500ml energy drink about 1 hour before going to bed (at least 1 hour)... the sugar rush and caffeine high is counteracted after about 30-45 minutes (1 hour on full stomach), and can make you feel extremely exhausted then. I've done this. It works, but it's not healthy. I wouldn't recommend it. Only as a last resort, and definitely not every evening. Besides... if you do it every evening, it's going to stop working just like the sleeping pills.

"I don't care about politics"
Then politics doesn't care about you either. Truth. You've got to make your voice heard, if you want to be listened to. But that's too logical for some people, so let me go a step further. Not making your voice heard, leaves other people free to hijack it by speaking on your behalf, even if they don't actually give a shit about you. That's politics. So, make your voice heard. That's not a quote from anywhere. That's just me.
