Sunbathing - May 27th 2012, 03:30 PM

I have diabetes and it's really sunny here. My mum's telling me not to sunbathe as it can affect me? How can it affect me ??

http://www.dlife.com/dlife_media/tv/...n/sun-diabetes Apparently tempurature can affect how well insulin works, you're more likely to get sunburns and skin infections and if you have an insulin pump, you should try to keep it out of direct sunlight.

Sorry for the late reply. But Katie is correct. As with many medications, insulin makes you more susceptible to the harmful affects of the sun.

If you use enough sun screen and want to go out for a bit (an hour or so), it should be alright. However, speaking to your doctor would be best. They might have some more suggestions for keeping your skin safe.
