Question Why Does My Skin Itch? - July 19th 2012, 03:22 AM

For the past 2 or 3 days, I've had persistent itching. No where specific, but mostly all over my back, upper half of my arms, my neck, and my thighs. I'm not allergic to anything at all. Why am I so itchy?! It's really bothering me.

Lots of things cause itching, but it could just be dry skin!
I itch ALL THE TIME because of dry skin. Im sure my bf gets sick of scratching my back...
You could try some lotion and see if it helps. But dont use lotion if you have a rash. That could spread whatever is causing it!
And If it doesnt go away or you see a rash start to form call your doctor and have it looked at.

I've never really had dry skin before that itched and I know it's defiantly not a rash. D;

You don't have to have a history of dry skin to have dry skin. I see you live in Kansas, which I know most of the US has been under really hot times with drought conditions. It is very common during such hot times for people to get dry skin. If you are dehydrating quicker due to the heat, or not drinking as much water as before, this can cause your skin to dry out.

It might help to try a lotion with no scent (usually cheaper, as well as less irritating to your skin) and drinking more water. Sweat can also cause itching, due to clothes rubbing against your back and sometimes sticking, causing chafing (basically rubbing your skin raw which makes it flake and itchy, or just red and itchy).

So, try a non-scented lotion all over your body. Dry off after a shower by dotting, not rubbing. Add the lotion as soon as you are dry (a little bit all over is good, you don't need to look like you are covered in oil :P ) and increase water intake.

Wearing clothes high in cotton, or 100% cotton can help keep your skin less irritated by sweat, because it is airy enough that it can cool your body down and reduce the sweat.
