Food poisoning? - July 29th 2012, 08:17 PM

Over a period of about 20-30 minutes, I had a stomachache, diarrhea, the feeling that I needed to vomit (but no actual vomiting), extreme sweating (it was dripping off of me), and faintness/lightheadedness. Does that sound like food poisoning? I'm kind of unsure because it's also true that I had overeaten (I had eaten two plates of food at an Indian buffet just a couple hours after eating breakfast). Can overeating cause those kinds of symptoms? Stomachache, nausea, and diarrhea from overeating I can understand, but can it cause excessive sweating and faintness as well? Thanks.

The exact symptoms can vary depending on the person, but yes that does indeed sound like food poisoning. The only scenario in which I could see overeating causing faintness and lightheadedness is if you are diabetic or hypoglycemic. Otherwise, I'd say food poisoning it is.

Specific food poisoning symptoms can vary a lot... but your's in general sound like it is food poisoning.

"I don't care about politics"
Then politics doesn't care about you either. Truth. You've got to make your voice heard, if you want to be listened to. But that's too logical for some people, so let me go a step further. Not making your voice heard, leaves other people free to hijack it by speaking on your behalf, even if they don't actually give a shit about you. That's politics. So, make your voice heard. That's not a quote from anywhere. That's just me.

How long ago did you eat what you think might have given you food poisoning? It takes at least 10 hours before you begin experiencing symptoms.

If it has been at least that long and you know what might have caused it, you should call the restaurant to let them know you might have food poisoning. This way, they can chuck out whatever caused it. Food poisoning can be very serious for people with weak immune symptoms, such as the elderly or an already sick individual.

From your symptoms, it could be food poisoning. Keep drinking lots of water. If you decide to go the 7-up route to soothe your stomach, drink it warm. NOT cold. The change in temperature can be very upsetting to your stomach.
