carpal tunnel syndrome - September 7th 2012, 09:34 PM

I think if I don't stop what I'm doing, I'll get carpal tunnel syndrome.
I'm on the computer all day almost everyday. My shoulders have started hurting when I'm just sitting in the classroom. (btw im 17) but recently as of the past 2 days i have felt a little pain in my hands when i stretch the fingers apart. i know that i dont have carpal tunnel syndrome because i caught it early but what can i do to make sure i dont get it and can still go on the computer?

thanks, Adipose

Try using the computer less.
For general health, take a 1:4 time break of offn during use. 1 HR on, 15 mins off.

If you've done in the tendons (it happens a lot among pianists, too!), then it's not going to be easy, but you'll manage anyway.

Just to be sure...you haven't done anything recently that could lead to...well, stiffness in the joints, have you (other than computer games)?

If you're using a laptop, go to a computer store and buy a cooling pad with built-in fan. Aside from helping to cool the laptop, all of them are tilted so it's less strenuous on the hands or wrist. If you're using a desktop, you could either buy a more expensive keyboard that is ergonomically designed. Both of these options are more suited to home use though. For use at school, you could try to prop up the keyboard.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
