Question Ovarian Cysts - September 9th 2012, 06:35 AM

Ok so I have been having pelvic pain and my periods were irregular. Along with the pelvic pain I have a lower back pain too. So the doctor wanted me to do a pelvic ultrasound. I found out I have an ovarian cyst. I haven't gone back to the doctor to get medicine or anything. The technician told me that I have a cyst but she didn't tell me what kind of cyst. I also have frequent headaches and I was wondering does the headaches have anything to do with cysts. And I also wanted to know if anyone has has ovarian cysts?? How do they treat it??? What are some of their symptoms???

Basically I want to know EVERYTHING i have to know about cysts and I want to hear something about people who have it. I don't know what to expect and I am freaking out.

EDIT: I forgot to say they saw a cyst in my left ovary that had a parting in the middle. So I am thinking it is two cysts stuck together.

Re: Ovarian Cysts - September 11th 2012, 04:32 AM

Hey there!

I myself found out I have an ovarian cyst after an ultrasound. I'm fairly sure they can tell what type it is (dangerous or not) by seeing it in the ultrasound. Things like size, amount, whether it's solid or liquid, etc. If they don't think it's a problem they won't really say much about it. You can always ask again to be sure.

Cysts happen naturally and many women have them and don't even know it. It doesn't have to be caused by a disorder or disease. There is no treatment for the normal ones as they usually just go away by themselves. Some symptoms are a sharp, sudden pelvic pain that isn't constant. That can happen more while exercising, intercourse, and other activites. Irregular periods are also a symptom sometimes. As well as back pain during your period. But a lot of women don't ever feel them or have any symptoms whatsoever. I had symptoms such as pain, but it was on the opposite side of the cyst so that wasn't what was causing it.

The majority of cysts are benign and are just a little bit of built up fluid. I would however, ask your doctor if something else could be causing your symptoms. If your pelvic pain or back pain is constant it could be something else. My pain is constant rather than random so I'm being tested for digestive disorders, infection, and such instead. I don't believe cysts can cause headaches, so you would want to bring that up also.

So don't worry to much about the cyst. It will most likely clear up on it's own and you may have already had it for a while without even knowing it. Keep up to date with your pelvic and pap exams. And ask your doctor if there is anything else that can be causing your symptoms. It's annoying when a doctor does one test, doesn't find anything really wrong and then drops your case with you still feeling ill. So see if there's anything else going on instead. And feel free to ask them what type of cyst they found. It's your body, you're allowed to ask whatever you want to know about it.

Take care!

Well i'll have to ask what kind of cyst it is after my i go to my doctor again. She told me to go and get a CT scan of the brain done for the headaches. I did the CT when I was 8 or 9 and now because my symptoms have changed they want me to do it. I used to be dizzy but now I have headaches too. Thank you for your reply
