How to get rid of pent up anger? - September 17th 2012, 12:43 PM

Long story short, I'm really fucking angry right now. I can literally feel the frustration with myself bubbling up inside. How can I get rid of it? It's been gradually worsening over the course of the last hour and I fear I might do something stupid if this isn't sorted out soon.

Last time this happened I punched my bed's metal frame and broke a knuckle/fucked my wrist up.

Hey,

If you want to do it privately, I'm completely open for PMs, but if you tell someone what's wrong, it will feel better instantly, and maybe then they can help.

I posted a rant on it in the 'Why me?' sub-forum, so check that out if you really feel like helping. Should you decide to reply here or over PM is fine, I'm not bothered.

Hey there.
I'm sorry something happened to make you feel so angry.
When you're upset and angry, it's sometimes good to talk to someone about it, even if you're just venting about your problem. It takes some of the pressure and frustration away. You could also try some other things instead, as a replacement for anything you would want to do while angry. The list of alternatives found in the SH forum (here) may also help you out some. Try them until you find something you enjoy.
I hope this helped some. If you need me, I'm only a PM/VM away.

I used this as an alternative to get over my 'episodes' when things got too much, but I don't see why it wot work ^^

1. Build a nice big pile of cushions on the sofa.
2. Grasp cricket bat/tennis raquet/heavy swingable object firmly in two hands.
2. SWING AWAY. You show them cushions who's boss!

I found that when I'd gotten the worst of it out, it was easier to talk. And I stopped freaking out so much,

To calm your mind, you can direct your anger towards something different. For example, playing a game or reading a book. I sometimes walk in the park while counting my breath. (Kind of meditation.) If you like animals and your anger issues are serious, you may want to own one. I love my dog and when I am angry, I sometimes play with him. Which help me calm down?

Everyone is different and you need to find your own way to direct your anger towards something that calms you down without harming others.

I agree with Hallelujah - punch some cushions or whack some cushions with a baseball bat or tennis racket. You could also try going for a walk or ripping up paper, or writing down on paper how you feel then ripping the paper up.

I usually punch a door, but I wouldn't advise that. Play some music really loud, or pay some calming music. Works almost every time, in which then I use the door

My bedroom door has many holes in it.
The study doesn't have a door any more at all. It was turned into sawdust.

Now I punch the walls. (With the heel of my palm, I don't want broken knuckles.)

I also punch people... In mixed martial arts matches.
