oooppps? - September 19th 2012, 10:26 PM

So last week I started off with one ear infection. The pain progressed during the week. I went to the doctors last mon. and they gave me Z Pack. But in liquid form. My parents gave me each dose. I went back this mon. because both of my ears hurt. So now I have two ear infections and the Z stuff didn't work. The doctor asked if I had finished taking the Z Pack over a 10 day peiod. And my mom said yes. True I did finish the medicine off, but I only took it in 5 days. By what my parents gave me. Now I have a fever, my head hurts, i'm coughing, i'm always hot or always cold, and my ears are in a lot of pain. I'm on a stronger antibiotic, but I can't seem to find it working. What should I do???

Oh goodness. Five days? Most medicine won't work that quickly :P

Sorry you are feeling worse. Continue the medications the way the doctor told you to take them. The antibiotic should start working in roughly 2-3 days. If by day 3 you still haven't noticed anything, you need to go to your doctor's. You may need a different antibiotic.

Apply a warm cloth to the out ears. Not a WET warm cloth. Just get a cloth damp (well rung out), then put it in the microwave for 5 seconds. This will heat it up. Be careful as it can get quite hot. Then place the damp cloth on your ears.

The next best thing you can do is to treat your symptoms from the ear infection. There are drops you can put in your ears to relieve the pain, which you can get over the counter and from your doctor. Or just try some Ibuprofen.

As for the hot or cold, that would be from your fever. Ibuprofen will also help lower the fever. The coughing is from your ears, as your ears and throat are connected. Same with if your throat is sore, sometimes your ears ache. The ibuprofen should also help this. You can also try some tea with honey (both are EXCELLENT for when you are sick as they both have healing properties, and honey will help coat your throat).

Hope you feel better soon!!!

Thanks a lot, I didn't know about the cloth thing. I did use the ear drops, but they weren't working either. And I have been taking the Ibpro.. stuff and other pain stuff and it wasn't working much. And my mom did mention something aout Tea so thanks.
