Cyst Removal? - September 21st 2012, 01:12 AM

I've had a really unpleasant looking pimple on my nose for over a year now. At the 6 month point, I asked my doctor about it and he said it was "nothing" and "it will go away soon". I just got into university and asked another doctor about it, and she told me that it's not a pimple, it's a cyst. My only options on what to do about it is just ignore it, put a little makeup on it, and hope it'll go away OR get it surgically removed by a dermatologist. She advised just ignoring it though, because removing it would cause scarring.

But I don't know what to do. I feel like a scar would be easier to cover up than this ugly bump that gets red when I irritate it (ex: blowing my nose... which I sorta have to do).

Has anyone had a cyst removed before? How exactly are they removed? What was the cost of it?

I've not had one, but I know someone who did, but I don't remember the cost.

The procedure is pretty minimal, but of course there is always risk of infection as with any surgery.

They will numb it, then open it up to drain. Then they will pull out the cyst formation. If they get all of it, you will likely have a 100% cure rate. However, if a small fragment is left behind, it is possible for more cysts to show up later in your life.

After surgery, you will have around 7-10 days to change bandages two or three times a day. Then you will be left with a small scar (roughly the size of the cyst, but add on a tiny bit more for the removal process).

That's it. Very basic and simple. If you end up being able to afford it, I would consider speaking to doctors to see how common it is for parts of the cyst to be left behind and any other questions you may have.

Hope this helps
