Question Can't lose weight?! [It's complicated] - November 9th 2012, 07:33 AM

So, about two years ago, I was really depressed (Not going into detail there :/), and sort of stopped eating all food. Nothing was appetizing, I was never hungry, etc. For some reason this made me pack on a TON of excess weight. (I went from a [Edited] (lbs) to an upper-[Edited] weight. Now, present day, I'm still fat, but I really really want this weight gone. Unfortunately, no amount of healthy eating nor exercise has gotten the weight off. My friends say that I'm not fat, but by even glancing at me, you can tell I'm larger. My face is rounder than most, etc. I guess I still have a small frame, but I just have a lot of excess weight (as previously mentioned, almost no muscle).

What can i do to lose all of the extra weight? Every night, I go to sleep hoping that I could wake up and be back to two years ago, being lifted then tossed between a couple of my friends. (not even kidding)

If you don't eat and get enough nutrients in your body, your body will start retaining water and storing excess fats to keep you from getting too unhealthy.

Have you taken out sodium/salt from your diet? This can cause further water retention. So decease or get rid of entirely sodium/salt, and increase your water intake. Drinking more water keeps you hydrated and your body won't feel the need to retain it.

Also, start trying to do weight lifting and strength training to gain muscle. Replace the 'fat' with muscle. This is so much healthier and the best practice for long-term healthiness as cardio is great for getting rid of excess weight, but eventually you get to a point you can't lose anymore. This is when you need to start trying to gain muscle.

My favorite motto, "Healthy is strong, not skinny". Also, ask your doctor what they think. If they don't feel you need to lose weight, let them know you would like to learn how to become healthier. What foods to avoid. What exercise is best for your body-type.
