Argh. My rib. - April 16th 2009, 02:53 AM

Just today I've been experiencing pretty bad pain under my right lower rib cage. I had it for like an hour before, it went away, now its back. I'm going to go to the doctors, but anyone know what it could possibly be?

Its just the pain under the ribs and no where else.
No other symptoms.
I didn't do anything that could have pulled it or injured it.

Is there a small or large lump around it that you can feel? It could be a pulled muscle around the rib area (there are a decent amount, i.e. intercostal muscles, serratus anterior muscle, etc...). It could also be referred pain, that is, it feels like it's in that area but the cause is elsewhere, such as a heart attack typically causes arm pain.

However, the last few ribs, the false ribs, especially the floating ribs can be damaged or broken much easier.

Too many possibilities to suggest.
