Chapped lips >.> - February 23rd 2013, 01:51 PM

My lips have been so chapped these past few weeks they're starting to split/bleed. I blame the weather

I've been using lip balm like a crazy lady but it doesn't seem to help much. Any advice?

Make sure you're using a plain lip balm that doesn't have too many chemicals. Check for camphor, phenol and menthol. These actually make your lips more dry. If you add that to the cold weather, it makes your lips very chapped.
Drinking lots of fluids (water in particular) can help you to stay hydrated which will help the problem as well.

And here you are living, despite it all.

A lot of times, chapped lips are a sign that you're dehydrated. Make sure you're drinking enough water.

Drink lots of water, use plain lipbalm (I use Vaseline - petroleum jelly), and lots of it (as soon as it's soaked in, apply more). After a hot shower, try really gently brushing your lips, which will get rid of the top layer of dry skin (if it hurts, stop, this may not work for you :c) so it can't crack.

All of the above! But also try to eliminate as many stressful things from your lifestyle as you can. If you're getting cuts in the corner of the mouth, you can also ask for your doctor to prescribe you a steroid cream, which will aid healing.

It depends on the lip balm - Vaseline has been shown not to work that well on dry lips but Carmex does. Make sure you're not too dehydrated. Cold weather can make it worse!! Brushing your lips gently with a toothbrush can help get rid of the dead skin.
