Headaches at the back of my head - April 15th 2013, 09:11 PM

I've had these for a few years but they're getting more frequent. It feels like someone's hitting me at the back of the head -____- My mum seems to think it's due to anxiety, which wouldn't really surprise me. I do seem to get them more when I'm stressed/anxious.

How can I help stop them? They really hurt >.>

You can try drinking more water, lying down when it happens, putting a an ice pack on the back of your neck or to a lesser extent ice cubes in your mouth or taking steady deep breaths (1 every 5 seconds is a good target to aim for). It really depends on what's causing them, in which case seeing your doctor might be a good idea in the near future. Also they can rule out any illnesses that might cause headaches.

I'd see a doctor, because there are so many different causes for headaches, and if they're getting more frequent then you'll want to treat the root of the problem, not merely the symptoms.

Often headaches can be caused by things like jaw clenching (which many people, such as myself, do subconsciously), sore or injured necks, sitting wrong, an intolerance that you're not aware of, and of course, mental health issues - I get craploads of headaches when I'm depressed.

So yeah. Find out why you're getting the headaches, and then you can manage that, and get less of them

I get these too rather frequently. I find that anxiety makes them worse. I've figured out mine are caused by dehydration, I do not like water much, I'll drink it but usually when I start getting headaches and that helps them go away.
If possible though, talking to your doctor may be very useful.
Also your posture can have a huge affect and there are many other factors.
