Mosquito Bites. - June 26th 2013, 12:32 AM

Alrighty, so I went to my friend's house on Saturday, I was outside from noon till the night, and... I have approximately 18 mosquito bites. And they're driving me insaaane. I've been putting Caladryl (calamine lotion) all over the bites, but it doesn't work at all! Is there anything else I can do?

Hey Sarah, I empathize. I haven't been bitten yet, but mosquitoes LOVE me. There's something I found called "After Bite" which works really well, it's a liquid that comes in I think a white tube with orange lettering, we found it at the drug store and it's AMAZING If you have scratched before using it though, it will sting like crazy! It might be more expensive than some products, but it will last for years and it's totally worth it.

Hydrocortisone works well for relieving itchy bug bites. Or, if you want the more natural approach, my sister swears by peppermint leaves for mosquito bites.

Benedryl cream works wonders for me. I used to work at a camp and come home with about 20 bites on each arm.

I've also heard that alcohol on the bite eases the pain/itching. (:
Next time you go out like that there are a few things you can do:
*Deet keeps them away more than any other bug repellent. You can find it at camping stores. There's 100% deet but that's kinda bad for you so 20% should be okay.
*Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide and the acid in sweat, so being super active around dusk is not the best idea.
*They're also attracted to sugary things. If you have lots of sugar/sweet things in your diet then they will be more attracted to you. Avoid bananas, fruit juices, sodas, etc, before going out.

I hope this helps!
