Jaw Surgery...Is it really worth it? - July 31st 2013, 10:23 AM

I had my jaw broken a lot when I was a kid and now part of my jaw has several fractures that they could not repair when I was younger because as I grew my jaw was just moving out of place again, now I'm 16, they have decided to give it another try, but it won't help with the shape of my jaw or the position of my teeth, all its going to do is reduce my pain from an average of 8/10 to an average of 6/10, that doesn't include the recovery. The recovery will take around 3 months, I will be in hospital for 2 weeks and unable to eat solids for awhile. The pain will last for a year before it lessens to 6/10, for the recovery I've been told it will be sharp and intense. I really don't think its worth it, its not going to help with my appearance or anything, they say where my jaw is set, its not damaging anything, its just more painful for me in this position. Any opinions on this. I really don't think its worth it, but I want to know what other people will do?

I have never had jaw surgery, but I would say if your jaw hurts normally then you should maybe try surgery as if it makes it hurt less, then surely it should make it worth it? If your still not sure about it you can always ask for another appointment with where you'll have the surgery as they will give you more information and can talk it through with you.

I'm here if anyone wants to talk, I'm always here. Feel free to VM or PM me

Do whatever you want and feel is the best thing for you. It's your body.

Come on boys, come on girls
In this crazy, crazy world
Youíre the diamonds, youíre the pearls
Letís make a new tomorrow
Come on girls, come on boys
Itís your future, itís your choice
And your weapon is your voice
