Question insomnia? - January 12th 2009, 01:53 PM

Hi everyone.
Well this might seem like a weird thread. I'm not actually sure where it fits. But I can't sleep. Haven't been sleeping in like three days. And have never been in a deep sleep for a long long time, either because of insomnia or nightmares. I have taken sleeping pills, drinking milk, taking anti depressants..nothing work.. im still wide awake...but im extremely tired.. my college course work is falling apart.. i cant concentrate in college..im too tired..but i still cant sleep.. what do I do now? :/

Yourself sometimes
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you fear inside
It's alright, it's alright
Cause even heaven cries"

Did you go to a doctor about your insomnia?
Maybe there's some kind of stronger or better pill they could prescribe you so that you can sleep better?

Maybe it could help if you did things to try to relax yourself before you try to go to sleep or something? Like reading, or listening to music that calms you down..something like that. Or maybe try to figure out some of the causes of not being able to sleep, and then maybe it would be easier to think of something to help you sleep. Like if it was stress or something, then you could think of some way to handle it so you can sleep better. ?

Hi there Patty, I know you said that you won't be able to see your shrink for another 2 weeks, but perhaps you could go and see a GP before then and see what they suggest? Normally there's a reason behind insomnia, whether it's physical, emotional or mentally, so it's worth going before then especially seeing as though it's affecting you as it is and is stopping you from being able to concentrate properly.
What Amanda suggested was a good idea, it's important that you're relaxed and your mind is clear before you go to sleep otherwise sleeping will be more difficult.
Reading is something that makes me tired, but another good way is to have a long shower with bubble bath to calm you down and make you feel like sleeping.
Have you heard of aromatherapies? These are normally things that you can perhaps spray on your pillow to try and help you sleep, might be worth giving it a go.
Good luck and take care.

Hey-

I think it's very important that you call your therapist and tell them what's up. This is a big deal, and I'm sure it constitutes as bad enough to get it dealt with before your next appointment. If sleeping pills aren't even helping, something isn't right.

For now, lay down and just watch tv or read or listen to music for a while. Try to rest and get some energy, even if you can't sleep. Don't over worry yourself about sleeping, or you'll just psych yourself out.

Good luck!
Maria.
