How to feel awake without caffeine? - October 18th 2013, 03:02 PM

I get tired really quickly, I think it has to do with my E.D.S. I've googled it and chronic fatigue is related to E.D.S.

How could I make myself feel more awake without caffeine? If I drink too much coffee I will feel sick. I nap nearly every day and would like to stop it. It messes my sleeping schedule up which makes me feel worse.

I always find that washing my face and brushing my teeth helps.

Hi there, make sure your hydrated, eat every meal (including breakfast) and try turning on all the lights on you can, this is because it will help you feel more awake. For more ideas click here. Hope this helps, take care.

Thanks guys I seem to feel worse in the winter. I haven't had a nap today and I felt like utter crap earlier. I feel more awake now It tends to come and go in waves. I normally feel worse if I stay inside all day. I just couldn't go anywhere today 'cause it was raining and the car's in the garage

I find chewing gum keeps me awake, and there's a scientific reason behind it. When you chew it stimulates blood flow to your head, and because chewing is a voluntary action it actually stimulates your brain keeping you more awake and focused.
If you don't like gum you eat anything that requires chewing (like an apple for example) to get the same effect.

You can tap your foot while your sitting down or something, or when you first wake up have a small spasm attack.. haha run in place for a few minutes. That wakes me up!

I would say doing exercise outside (a 10-20 minute jog/run/bike etc) or a 20 minute nap. I don't know how long your nap is, but sleeping for an extra 20 minutes during the day shouldn't be too bad for your sleep cycle.

You should also get dressed at the beginning of the day, either when you wake up or after you have breakfast. It works for me, because that'd mean I'd have to work to change into my pajamas if I wanted to get into bed.

Also, you should drink water to stay hydrated like someone else said. Try to use as little artificial light as possible, though. Maybe open up the curtains?

Splash water on yourself.
I always do it in the morning when I have nothing to look forward to but school.

I've found that waking up is painful for me lately because I'm always so tired so I started using sleepyti.me to figure out when I should wake up and it's helped a ton.

I've found having a shower can help wake me up, you could also just wash your face/splash some water on your face if you don't want to shower. Also getting out of the house or just doing something tends to help as I find sitting around and not doing much makes me feel sleepy and if it's coming to winter, the cold air might wake you up.
