Shoulder Hurts - December 20th 2013, 06:31 PM

Hi guys, my shoulder has been hurting for the past few months, like right around 7 months ago? (Is that when May was?) Anyways, I played softball and I was a shortstop. I noticed it hurting me right at the end of the season, but I didn't think anything of it cause I thought it was just normal pain. However, for the past few months it was only like a faint pain that was only there every once in awhile after doing certain things or whatever. Here recently it's been hurting no matter what I do. I can barely move it at all now without a sharp pain. Does anyone know what this is? Should I go to the doctor or just deal with it?

Hey Ciara, Since the pain isn't going away and you're having it more often, I would suggest getting it checked out. Especially if you want to continue playing softball, just in case something is wrong it can get taken care of before it gets worse.

Pain for longer than 6 weeks is classed as chronic and if is best to see a Dr. They will probably send you for an x-ray but from what you describe it is more likely to be damage to your rotator cuff muscles than bone. Until you see a doctor all I can recommend is pain killers and anti inflammatory medication (ibuprofen).

Okay, thanks guys. I have an appointment after Christmas. Just one question, does anyone know if I'll have to take my belly button ring out for the x-ray?

No, you won't have to take it out for an x-ray of your shoulder. If later get sent for an MRI scan then you will but for the x-ray you won't.

It depends on the person taking the x-ray but if you wear a plain t-shirt then you should only have to slip your bra strap down.

Okay, I was just worried about taking it out because I've only had it about a month.
