Periods very short and irregular -

For about a year now my period tends to come about once every 2, 3 months and only last for about 3 days.
Now I do have a binge/purging issue and I do restrict a little, but I don't think I can be classified as starving myself and I'm at a regular weight, and to my knowledge your weight only has effect on your period when you're severely underweight, right?
So does anybody have an idea where these irregularities might be coming from?

When periods first start, and possibly lasting several years after that, it's normal for them to be irregular. Weight is a major factor, but not just if you're severely underweight. Any amount of gain, loss, diet changes etc. can affect it. Think of it this way: aside from an ovulated egg not being fertilized, your period is nature's way of telling you that your body can't support a pregnancy so it's affected by pretty much anything and everything. As for how long they are, some people are just lucky and they happen to be short.

Hey there,
There are many reasons why periods can become irregular. Late periods can be caused by stress, illness, weight changes, dietary changes or even underlying health problems.
It may take a while for your periods to become regular, but if in doubt, you can always speak to your doctor or gynaecologist, who can advise you further.

Hi There,
As was previously mentioned, many factors can cause your periods to be both short, late or missed.
I know for me personally, I have never been underweight but I did have a few points in life where I would skip a meal or two or more here and there and I noticed I would miss periods.
It would not hurt for you to talk to your doctor about this. They will be able to recommend any treatments if needed based on your medical history, how you are currently and what you mention to them.
Hope this helps.
