Sugary gum is bad for your teeth because sugar feeds bacteria in your mouth and therefore increases risk of cavities and such.

Sugar free gum is good for your teeth. A lot of sugar free gum made by brands such as Excel (sp?) and Dentyne (sp?) has something that I think is called Xylitol in it and from what I can understand that can prevent cavities. Plus, chewing sugar free gum can generate saliva and that's good because a dry mouth increases risk of cavities so by contrast having saliva in your mouth is logically healthier.
