right ear problem? - January 27th 2017, 06:25 PM

for the past few days(like 3 days ) ive been waking up with a buzzing sound in my right ear through out the day it get better and it doesnt bother me i get the buzzing sound in my right ear at night to.... during the day ive sat quietly etc and listened for the buzzing sound to find its not there... so this rules out tinnitus. now my right ear feels blocked.. like right now im sitting quietly in the back room no tv on nothing just me laptop. and i have no buzzing noise. i know with tinnitus it should be like a constant noise - this isn't constant and now my right ear feels blocked like the ear drum needs to pop. can anyone like give me any idea as to what may be causing this? like i said im pretty sure its not tinnitus...

Is there any chance of getting to the doctor? This is just based off experience so I could definitely be wrong, but one time I felt as if my ear was blocked and needed to pop, and after it didn't pop I went to the doctor and they flushed excess earwax out of my ear. But then there's my mom who sometimes gets that and it takes days to un-pop, or she has to go to the doctor too for a flush.

Probably an ear infection, it sounds like you have fluid build-up, nothing to worry about. I have a bad history of ear infections, but I've never gone to a doctor to get one popped. I would just leave it be unless it starts getting very painful or the ringing increases considerably.

Buzzing sound is a symptom of tinnitus. But it is better to go for a checkup. My friend had similar symptoms and he had undergone a hearing test in Toronto. He had tinnitus. But in your case, you have a history of viral infection it can be also an ear infection. It is better to check before driving to a conclusion.

If it's positional then it could be fluid build up, or something related to your viral infection. Are you feeling better in yourself, or still feeling ill? You could go to the doctors about it, or you could wait until your viral infection has cleared up and see if you still have the hearing issue and then go to the doctors.

Hi Lyd,

Like Holly said, it could be fluid build up if the fluid is not draining properly.

Does it happen when you're yawning? There are a bunch of other reasons as to why you're getting the ringing in your ears as well. Have you been able to see a doctor yet? Have you tried cleaning out your ears?
