Sleeping Issues - April 13th 2017, 03:44 AM

I have an issue with sleeping again but I'm not sleeping. I'm just laying there in my bed for hours with my eyes shut but I'm not sleeping. I'm so exhausted and I'm worried about going back to work with no sleep. I do everything to make me sleep, I have melatonin tablets and it's not working for me. I'm getting so frustrated.

What can I do? I've already been to the doctors and they don't want to put me on stronger sleeping tablets bc of my history.

What I would recommend would be trying herbal tea, Valerian, exercise, don't use electronics, etc.

I finally was able to get on some sleeping pills as I didn't sleep for a few days.

This sounds counterproductive and I'm not sure if it will work for you, but when you realise that you are just laying there with your eyes shut rather than being able to fall asleep, get up and do something boring. Even if all you do is sit up in bed or walk around your room/house for say 15 minutes or so, then try going back to sleep. Try not to pay attention to the time either as that can stress out when you realise that you only have a certain amount of hours to sleep. And I know this may sound impossible, but try not to dread bed time either, as I know that after a few sleepless nights you may dread trying to get to sleep, but try to ignore those thoughts rather than worry about them.

Something to go along with what Holly mentioned. Sometimes if you try and sleep somewhere else, you might be able to finally fall asleep. Sometimes if I can't sleep I'll go downstairs and lay on the couch until I fall asleep. After I wake up I'll go back up to my room.

Also, with the herbal tea, try sleepy time tea, or lemon balm tea.

Re: Sleeping Issues - April 15th 2017, 04:07 AM

Today is the third day and only had 5 minutes sleep I went for a long 3 hour walk at 1am in the morning and I still wasn't tired. Brittany -- I've tried all of the teas they don't work either. I read books all the time, and I'm able to finish a book before I'm even tired.

What about making a longer bed time routine? Bath with some relaxing bubble bath, then no electronics before bed?

I take melatonin too, but find if I fight it then it wont work. What about lavender sprays for your pillow, they are meant to help too

Good luck!

Edit - Also, what about going to the gym/exercising before hand. Sometimes if I'm more physically tired, i'm more likely to sleep.

Hey,
Personally, I find working out helps me get some rest. But nothing 2-3 hours before your bed time because working out releases adrenaline and stress hormones that can keep you up.
Also, I like to use meditation apps that help me calm down. Soft sounds like rain, or waves helps me fall asleep.
Also, perhaps staying away from your phone laptop etc half an hour or so before bed may help?
If none of these work, perhaps meet your doctor to get some medical advice?
Cheers
Tort

Re: Sleeping Issues - April 17th 2017, 11:54 PM

I have what I call chronic insomnia I have found with me a sleep meditation playlist usually helps drinking camomile tea/ a special tea made for night time (sleep easy herbal tea) and colouring or reading book often helps me too I usually also go to the toilet before settling down as it's easier to lke sleep with an empty bladder than a full one I also sometimes find going for a walk at around 8pm tends to lke help me sleep too if a lot is going round in my head I get out my journal or a note pad and write it all down in there and sometimes after lke doing that I can make a plan and then write down the plan on the notepad I do sometimes take sleeping pills from the pharmacy just lke over the counter ones. I also have a sleep spray and sleep lotion that I use if I'm really struggling the sleep spray and sleep roller are lkke all natural and have a lavender scent to them which lkke helps me sleep if you google sleep spray it should come up with like lots of natural sleep sprays that you could try I also use a little bottle of lavender oil and put lke 1-2 drops of lavender oil on each of my wrists and rub it in as the scent helps me lke drift off to sleep
