Bad Energy Drink Experience - May 24th 2009, 12:48 AM

I'm not one of those people who drinks energy drinks all the time. Actually I'm pretty close to the opposite. I only drink them every-once-in-a-while when I'm with my friend. And until last night, I had never had any bad effects from them.
We stopped at a gas station at about 7PM and my friend and I decided that we wanted some energy drinks. So we went in and I bought us each one. I got more hyper than I ever have been before, because normally caffeine of any kind doesn't make me hyper. Actually the opposite, I normally crash. But no, I was hyper. And then, my stomach started feeling weird and sloshy about 10PM and we realized that we hadn't ate in about 10 hours. Around that time we were also at Target, which closes at 10PM and at 10PM they turned off about half their lights. I freaked out a lot to this which is something that I usually wouldn't freak out to. Also, most of this time, my heart was just racing and my mind was doing the same.
Last night, I felt exhausted but couldn't sleep until close to 4AM because my heart was going so crazy and I couldn't listen to most of my music because it would freak me out when it'd suddenly get loud and I am one of those people who can't sleep without music. I think I was partially afraid to fall asleep as well.
This morning my heart was still kind of... beating faster than usual. Now, I'm not quite sure but its at least better. I just... Doubt that I will be having an energy drink again anytime soon. I am not quite sure why I posted this, but I did.

This is how it ends
We believe every lie & say we'll still be friends
How long will it last

That probably happened due to the fact you had not eaten in a while. When you have an empty stomach substances like caffeine and alcohol are absorbed a lot faster in your body and can lead to that kind of rush.

If you have another energy drink, I suggest you eat before.

Energy drinks can be very dangerous. They're loaded with caffeine, sugar and stimulants which can strain your heart and make it beat incredibly fast. Although caffeine itself isn't 'toxic' to the heart, drinking just a small amount can cause high blood pressure, can impair the blood flow to your heart and also cause abnormal heart rhythms which can kill you. Energy drinks have become popular 'mixers' with alcohol, which is very dangerous and can cause immediate death. It can also cause irritability, nervousness and nausea.
I had a near fatal experience with energy drinks. I was out with some friends and because I wasn't old enough to buy alcohol, I brought 12 cans of energy drink. By the end of the night my heart was beating so fast that I had a seizure and collapsed, and ended up spending two nights in hospital. I used to drink several cans of it every day but after that night I stopped. I've damaged my heart because of it also, so I'd advise all of you never to touch the stuff personally.
