is this normal? - September 26th 2017, 08:17 PM

so i always seem to have to pee first thing when i wake up, even though i dont drink anything within 3 hours of going to bed - plenty of time to get it all out of my system. My main concern is wetting myself while in bed (dont always wake up) i know that having dreams of a sexual nature can contribute to that, but i always thought it was just something that happens when youre a teenager?

do people generally do this or could it be a problem with the digestive system (or whatever its called that processes the liquids anyway)

i know its the most random thing ever to concern about, but its been like every day for months that ive had to wee when i wake up in the morning

Hi Matthew! The good news is, it is normal!

We have a hormone called anti-diuretic, which is released at higher levels when we are asleep. This hormone direct cells to retain water. As a result, we don't have to urinate. By doing so, this helps us to stay hydrated which keeps us from feeling thirsty at night.

The same thing works for hunger. When we are awake again, our body starts activating these functions again, like how we would realize we need to have our breakfast and/or go to the bathroom to urinate.

It's normal to have to pee when you first wake up regardless of when your last drink was before bed. Your kidneys continue to produce urine unless you become severely dehydrated (like emergency level dehydrated) Obviously, the more or closer to be you drink, the more you'll have to go, but this is normal. If it's a new problem, it might be worth getting checked out, especially if you have other symptoms.

As it's been said, it's totally normal to need to pee when you get up. Many things can contribute to bed wetting, and for you, it sounds like you may be a deep sleeper and so you don't always wake up when you need to go. You may want to go to the doctors and see what they say. There are quite a few ways to treat bedwetting depending on what might be the cause.

Hey there! Do you happen to feel cold when you sleep? In that case there might be a chance you feel like peeing too much. Try going to the washroom before sleeping. That could help you. Also, how is your tendency of controlling otherwise, like during the day time?
