Help! Lice! - October 29th 2017, 06:01 PM

So about a week ago there was a lice out break at my dance studio. I was on vacation at the time, but was there a few days this week. I have eczema so my scalp is normally itchy, but I think I may have caught lice and I don't know how to get rid of it. I'm 16 so I don't really want my parents to know. So help?????

I've gotten lice when I was younger, from being at church camp. We just went out and bought the medicated shampoos and would use that. It was a tiresome process because after using the shampoo, we would also have to pick through our hair to get all the lice out.

I think there might be other medicated things you can use as well and, for those, you might need to do a Google search.

That being said, you might want to have someone look through your hair to see if you actually do have lice. There are times when I get a super itchy scalp and get worried it's lice and it isn't. I also know that when you hear that others near you have had lice it can cause you to think you have it and it can cause you to think your scalp is itching more than usual. The only reason I suggest being certain is because the treatment can be pricey.

Hey,
I honestly would have someone who knows what lice looks like to look through your hair. I would recommend a parent because most of them know what to look for. If you do have it then you need to buy this lice treatment and then you have to comb out your hair with a special comb it comes with to get all of it out. It isn't a one person job, because you cannot see if it is all out. Also if you have it you should tell your parents and if you have any siblings that way they can check to see if they have it. Also if you have any stuffed animals that you sleep with you need to make sure you take precaution and treat them like they have it. When I was little we had to put all of them in a bag for thirty days then was them. I don't think you have to do it to that extent but I think a couple of days might be good then wash them

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

Hey. Iíve gotten lice a few times from Church or through various activities that I did and so did my siblings. My parents hired someone to make sure we had lice and them treat our hair and remove it because my hair is super curly and thick and that way we could of been sure it was all gone. I would let your parents know so that they can check your hair or even help you treat it.

One thing we always did if we got a letter home about lice was make sure our hair was tightly braided and not loose. We also always have a few drops of tea tree oil in our shampoos which helps prevent lice.

You want to make sure that you put anything that can be dried into to the dryer at least 30 minuTes and anything that can be dried should be packed in a garbage bag for at least two days (we did a week to be safe) but lice die within 2 days if they donít have blood supply. They can live on your head for 30 days as well.

Good luck!

I haven't found any nits in my hair yet, but there are a lot of white specs and my head is really itchy. But it normally is itchy too, because like I said, I have eczema so dandruff is normal, but this itch is worse...

Perhaps you can buy a cheap fine toothed/lice comb? After you have washed your hair, run the comb through, particularly close to your scalp, and underneath the hair as well (lice like to stay close to the surface), as well as any place where it may itch in particular. If you don't find any live lice or nit eggs, then you may not have lice.

If you can let somebody know about this so that they can help you look through you're hair because you're not able to look through everything on you're head by yourself. They can use a comb like was suggested above. And if you can get some hair product to help kill it if you do end up having it. Because other people in you're house can end up catching it if you do end up having it.
I found some products are called, Lice free shampoo, NIX, RID lice killing shampoo, Liceshield Lice Shield. They have even more if you need it. All you have to do is Google it, because that's what I did.

I hope that you will be ok soon. If you can try you're best to stay calm if you can. Lots of hugs.

from what you've said it sounds more like a placebo effect and less like lice. you think you might have lice, so your brain is focusing on any little itch and pretty much blowing it out of proportion. this effect happens all the time, especially when people are scared they're pregnant and start to see "signs", because they shook hands with someone who might have masturbated or something.

you literally just need to ask one of your parents or even a friend to just look through your hair for you and tell you if they see anything. lice is nothing to be ashamed of, especially not with your parents. just get it over with so you can have a peace of mind.
