Wisdom/General Teeth Removal - November 16th 2009, 10:31 PM

Hi all,

i just got back from the dentist and found out i'm going to need all four of my wisdom teeth removed within the next 6 months.

Has anyone else had this done? I know it's going to hurt, alot, but i was wondering how long will it hurt for / how long will i be in hospital for?

Atleast i'll be given morphine

Hey there
I haven't had my wisdom teeth pulled, but I was there when my sister just got hers done last week. It usually starts hurting once the numbness goes away (obviously)...so I would recommend taking pain killers once you start to gain feeling back. From what I've heard, the day after you get them pulled is usually the most painful, but it should only hurt for a couple days.

Are they putting you to sleep or just numbing you? If they're putting you to sleep, it shouldn't take more than an hour. I was in the waiting room for my sister for only about half an hour...so it's not too long. But that also depends on your doctor n such.

Hope this helps!

Oh know, general anaesthetic.

I've just seen some people with all the swelling or padding and it looks actually quite scary. :s

Re: Wisdom/General Teeth Removal - November 17th 2009, 01:16 AM

hey.
I had my wisdom teeth removed like 8 months ago. I was so worried about it before, but after I had it done, I was so glad it was over with. It wasn't really all that painful, because they knocked me out with laughing gas and then some anesthesia to make me fall asleep. I don't remember much after they knocked me out lol, but I remember bits and pieces, like some parts of the ride home, and how my mouth was full of gauze. But they gave me some vicodin for afterwards, which was great lol. That stuff made me forget about my teeth, and there was no pain..but it made me really groggy. I was in and out of the dentist office in a few hours. The only problem I had after I got them cut out was eating..I had 3 wisdom teeth removed, so I couldnt chew solid foods for a few days without being in pain.

I'm sure they'll give you some pain medication after, and that'll help a lot. Good luck

I had mine pulled about 4 years ago and they didn't put me to sleep (the guy said he tends to be more gentle if he knows you're awake) It wasn't so bad. I was stuck eating yogurt and cottage cheese for a few days and I ended up hating the vicodin they gave me, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
