Question What does 124 Systolic/ 104 Diastolic Mean? - January 5th 2010, 01:12 AM

I was just wondering. Because according to the internet the Systolic is prehypertension and Diastolic is stage 2 hypertension. Along with a 91 pulse.

i'm not sure that i completely understand your question.. but during each heartbeat the blood pressure varies between a maximum (systolic) and a minimum (diastolic) pressure. so when you're told your blood pressure they'll usually express it in terms of the systolic pressure and diastolic pressure, with like one number over the other.. if that makes sense? in your case 124/104. ideally blood pressure should be 120/80 or lower..

Get checked by a doctor unless this is the number they gave you. distolic 104 is extremley high....not too healthy either.

It's about your blood pressure, which at the
minute diastolic looks really dangerous, I suggest
you get something sorted about it

well ideally blood pressure should be 120/80 or lower.. but surely if they were worried about it they would have told you they were concerned or ordered further tests when they took this reading?. i think it's worth going back to your doc to get it re-checked though, definitely.

Really? Wow. That's serious! I'll go get it checked again asap and see if it's better or worse then I'll tell you what I got. K?

. yeah, that number is either wrong or or there's something wrong causing it. recheck it maybe try cvs or something they have automatic blood pressure cuffs there usually so you don't have to set up a doctor appoitment for just that.

Re: What does 124 Systolic/ 104 Diastolic Mean? - January 9th 2010, 02:29 AM

I don't think the information in this thread is really entirely reliable or there are different units for different countries.

I work in a hospital and part of my role is to take patient's blood pressures every two hours and I have to alert more senior staff if they are too high or too low, so I know what I'm talking about.

120/80 is considered the perfect blood pressure.

If your systolic is below 100 or your diastolic is 50 or below it would be considered hypotension.

If your systolic is over 150 or your diastolic is over 100 it would be considered hypertension.

You are barely over this so I really would not be too concerned. If you are worried get checked out, but if I had taken those observations I would not be concerned and would not pass the information to senior staff.
