1 hour of BRISK Walking - January 6th 2010, 12:28 AM

[Edited] I've heard that walking for an hour burns more calories than skipping for 30 minutes.

Can anyone confirm this? Id be willing to do an hour a day every week if this is right.

I am in no way shape or form going to be running round my neighborhood.. walking seems much more viable.

[Edited]

I dont see how they weight up in the long run, skipping requires ALOT more effort, but I suppose its more for the "Toning" factor to it.

Anyone?

My tea's gone cold I'm wondering why I,
got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window,
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be gray,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me, that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad.

it depends how fast you were walking and also on your weight, theres no set amount of calories that walking for a certain amount of time burns.. but you can work it out for you personally by using a calories burned calculator - which you can find by typing that into google.

edit - ok i don't really know if my post makes sense now that the OP has been edited. but yeah..

It's somewhate true, it would depend on the intensity of the skipping vs. walking. Brisk walking, particularly early in the morning, before you've had breakfast will spike your metabolism for the rest of the day, thus you burn more calories during the day. Doing so early in the morning is the best time as your body's testosterone levels are slightly higher, which is great for fat burning and your body is still running on the dinner you had the night before, which isn't much, hence your body will burn fat rather than burning carbs as you haven't yet eaten.
Make sure you drink enough during the hour you walk, only enough to stop your mouth from drying out, otherwise you may get bloated, which is uncomfortable. As for breakfast, if you have something like poached eggs on toast, it will help refuel your body afterwards, with very little chance of replacing the fat started burning off.

It's certainly worth doing it 5-6 days a week (you need a rest day, really), I would if I could, but there isn't enough time in the day with gym-going as well!
