I feel like an old lady... - February 21st 2010, 07:45 PM

Last year I was diagnosed with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome after I severely dislocated my shoulder and had to go for physio. I've always known that I'm 'double jointed' as my fingers are unable to go straight and can bend in all different ways, plus my elbows bend differently, i'm quite flexible and my knees click a lot.

The bad side is that I tend to get A LOT of joint pain. Most recently my hips have been feeling as if they want to 'pop out', and it's extremely uncomfortable. I can feel them moving in the joint and it freaks me out. I have to stand completely upright and not lean on one leg more as my hip will just feel awkward.

My knees have always clicked when I bend down, but now they ache if I sit down in the same position for a while. Then the pain doesn't stop for ages. I also find that long walks make them ache more and I have to stop after about 40 minutes.

Now my shoulders are starting to feel loose again. I have to be so careful otherwise they'll just dislocate again. I'm going to start my home physio home exercises to strengthen the muscles.

I feel like I'm falling apart! This should happen to old people, right? I'm sick of being in pain all the time and watching where i'm positioned.

Is there anything I could take to help my joints? People have mentioned cod liver oil but I swear there's something else I could take, anything to ease the pain and make them not so stiff.

I might book an appointment with the doctors but I don't think there's much they'll be able to do. I actually think i'm going to be one of those people who have arthritis at a young age with the way i'm going.

my knees sound the same as yours... they click and hurt when i sit for ages or walk.. i find wen they hurt rub them and they dont hurt so much..

i would go to the doctors and ask if there is anything, but in the end your not old and you should just enjoy how you are..

But this isn't just normal pain, it interrupts what i'm doing and it's painful to move for quite a while. I'm really restricted in what I can do on a bad day.

Do go book an appointment with your doctor. They know more about your health and condition than we do. They can prescribe more effective pain meds. They may also help you find a physical therapist who can also help you manage your pain.

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!
