Arm against cervical cancer? Gah! - February 2nd 2009, 07:20 AM

I got that letter today.
The letter every girl in college is dreading.
My date for the injection.
24th Feb.
Gah.

I've never been good with injections, every time I have one I seem to have an allergic reaction to it, that makes me really ill for quite some time. It happened with the meningitus one, the TB one, all of them...

I'm actually dreading it. The leaflet they sent me is really quite daunting and scary, talking about side effects :[

I'm scared! Everyone who's already had it done says it hurts loads, and I have to have it in three parts too, which isn't good :[

Does it hurt? Help! I'm scared lol!

trust me, an injection is far easier to deal with than cancer!
just don't look at the needle, focus on something else, listen to your ipod and it'll be over before you know it. don't tense up or it'll be worse.

I've had my first one, and although everyone said how bad it was going to be it really wasn't that awful...
The TB one is WAY worse, honestly if you didn't look at this one you can barely feel it.
Seriously, it's definately worth it, and if you're worried about the allergic reaction thing, mention it to your doctor beforehand and see if there's anything they can do.
Good Luck

I have had all three of my Gardasil Vaccine shots. Honestly they are not that bad, they barely hurt. The needle itself is not the problem, if anything your arm is a bit sore afterwards, but that is about it. If it could be possibly life saving, and save me thousands in medical bills later, I am all for it.

Three Shots VS. Cervical Cancer

It is your choice, do what you want.

Is every girl in your school getting it? The shot here (America) costs around four or five hundred dollars. I only got it done free through the Naval hospital. How are you getting yours? And if it makes you feel better we all have to get it in three different shots, that is how it works. They should give you a little paper when you go in it says "three is key" it will help you remember when your next two shots are due.

Ive had 2 of those so far and It didnt really hurt. The jab itself was really not bad, my arm ached loads after though.
Just make sure you tell them that you have had a reaction before, so that they know. But it doesnt mean you will have one for this. My friend had a reaction to TB and not this one, they are all different. Just let them know you are worried and try to relax.

Injections and needles are scary yes, but are they as scary as getting cancer? I don't think so. And people will say it hurts and everything but everyone is different at the end of the day so it could hurt for some and not so much for the others. And as said, if you just mention you've had reactions to injections before they can do something about it.

Just focus on something else while it's happening and it'll be over before you know it.

I really want this needle but apparently the NHS aren't offering it until autumn this year because of my age. (http://www.immunisation.nhs.uk/Vacci..._am_I_eligible)
I can get it done at my GP but I would have to pay if I wait until autumn it is then free so I will have to wait.

Needles never hurt me I always just talk to the person and look away and I don't even notice it.

I'm personally weary of the Gaurdasil, their mass injecting girls here from ages 12-20. the lack of long term studies on any sideeffects of the vaccine scare me.

I have had cancer, and believe me, a vaccine is nothing! If you do get it you will have to cope with a lot more needles! I always just look away when I have injections (I find most of the pain is imagined) and think about something completely different, like an essay or something. I always think about what I am going to do when I get home.

I've had two of the three shots so far and they didn't hurt too badly. When it comes down to it, though, 3 shots versus cancer seems like a nice trade-off.

The only problem I've had with my 2 injections is my arm was sore for a few days afterwards. I'm horrible with needles, and even I think it wasn't that bad, I'd rather gardisil than a blood test! :P

Definitely don't worry about it. And all of the horror stories that come along with The Shot. :P
It's honestly not bad at all - I had the series of 3 and the fluid is a bit thick, to be honest, so that's why it might be a bit sore - but as far as the needle...well, that is just a pin-prick.

Don't worry too much about it. Like everyone else has stated, it all comes down to weighing your choices. 3 shots, or possibility of cervical cancer. I haven't gotten the shots yet, but I plan on it soon, and I'm not too worried. Think about ice cream or something delicious!

I've had two done ... they're not too bad. The worst side effect anyone has had (including me) is a stiff arm ... but it wears off, and i suppose it's worth it in the long term

The problem is, with the injection, it takes a few months to get the series done, and if you don't come back on time, they make you do it again. I got the first one done twice, and second one once, never went back for the third. And it itched at the injeciton site. Not bad though.

I've had it done, and your arm can be a little sore afterward, but really, it's okay. Cancer is a lot harder to deal with.

But it protects against HPV. If you don't have unprotected sex with someone you're not sure of, you'll be fine.

I've had my first one done, my arm was pretty sore afterwords, but I never got any side affects or anything, I'm just happy that I'm getting protected =D

I don't see the point in why I got one.
I'm not really planning to have sex with anyone at my age..yuck, but the doctor convinced my mom to have us get it done somehow, so both my sister and I did. It doesn't hurt to much at all, at least not when they put in the needle. It hurts most, I thought, about a day or so after you get the shot.
