Something's Wrong With My Jaw >.< - March 23rd 2010, 07:14 PM

For almost a week the right side of my jaw has been hurting.

First, it would hurt when I opened my mouth wide and then it started clicking and hurting.

It's now clicking more and when I have my mouth closed normally the teeth aren't together like they are on my left side.

What could it be? Also, if it's my jaw it's the doctor I need to see, not the dentist, right?

Hm.. I'd actually suggest the dentist.

I had the same thing, apparently mine was from grinding my teeth well I slept? And I was not aware of it? I got a bite plate, and it's better now

Definantly get it checked, even if you see your doc first, he/she may suggest the dentist.

Hope you get it sorted!

Yeah, you should see a dentist or orthodontist. It sounds a lot like TMJ, I mean I'm not a dentist but I've had issues with my jaw and teeth my whole life and I've had surgery for TMJ and several other jaw issues, that's what it seems like to me. Usually it can be solved with a guard thing that you wear at night or other simple things.

I agree with the others, go to the dentist to see what's up. You could be grinding your teeth in your sleep, and they'll give you a guard for your mouth to wear at night that'll prevent you from doing that if that's the case.

I have the same problem. I never did until after I got braces and everything.
At one point I told the dentist and he told me that there was nothing he could do about it. I think that was just that singular dentist, however; he was a bit of a fool.
I find that not chewing gum helps.

I think you should go to your GP first and then they will refer you to your dentist if necessary, however i think it's more of a doctor than a dentist thing [could be wrong.] Unless it's effecting your teeth as well?

Anyhow, yes.. get to your doctor and they should be able to tell you what's wrong and how to treat it.

Okay everyone, thanks guys.

I hate my dentist so I'll probably see the doctor first and see what they say

My friend had this problem and when she opened her mouth it clicked and was really painful but she went to the doctors and they gave her a rubbery wire thing that went in her mouth and she had to wear it for a few months. i think it's better now though but she went to the dentist and they told her to go to the doctors.
