Tinnitus - I need it to stop! - April 10th 2010, 12:55 AM

Well, I'm finally fed up with my tinnitus. You know, that ringing that no-one else can hear, that goes on for a long time? That. I've had it for as long as I can remember. it gets worse at night, or when I move my jaw a certain way, so it's definitely connected to my jaw. So, I've been googling, and the "only" way to cure it is to buy some $30 + book that probably won't help, so I'm turning to you guys. I can't see my GP because I don't have one anymore. the last doctor(s) I talked to said that there was no "cure" for it, so i just had to get used to it and learn to ignore it. I really want it to just go away, though. Anyone know any way to actually make it stop?

Thanks!

There is no cure for it, I believe tinnitus is caused by hairs in your ear being broken or something like that and that they can't grow back. The quieter it is the worse it'll be, I heard it's your body trying to make up sounds to replace what it can't hear, which would explain this.
All you can do is make the symptoms less obvious, so keep you ears cleared, or by using something like a hearing aid?

Ahh, I have the same problem as you and sadly, there is no cure. Mine has been really bugging me as of late as well, probably because I've been spending more time in quiet studying and it really is annoying. You just have to get used to it, and I know that's difficult. This would be why I keep music on almost 24/7. :P

I also found out that my tinnitus is the cause of my excess of ear wax. i "shouldn't clean my ears more than once a week" but the wax is there so frequent, i could clean them 2+ times a DAY... What is some way to cope with tinnitus, at least? i've tried ignoring it, but it doesn't help... also, CRT tvs and monitors make it really bad at times...

So, again.. how can i cope with this, at the very least?

Hey there Saito,

It seems as though you already know the answer - unfortunately, there is no cure for tinnitus. Unfortunately, it can be very frustrating and I can understand why you'd like it to go away. Perhaps you could try and talk to a specialist about your tinnitus and give you some suggestions on how to deal with this problem.

Take care.
