Threw up a little blood last night :/ - June 29th 2010, 09:41 AM

So last night I ended up getting a fair bit drunker than I had intended (which hasn't really worn off yet...bedbedbed after thisssss possssttt!!!!) and as soon as we got into the club we were heading too I made a beeline for the bathroom, where I eventually threw up. Which was fine, i think I just drank a bit too much too fast and accidentally mixed cider and beer....not the wisest thing to do. But I remember seeing a little blood mixed in...is this really bad..?? I have friends who see blood when they get drunk-sick sometimes but i've never thrown up blood before :/ There wasn't much and I feel fine today (well, I will when I've had some sleep,,, bitesize) but I'm just wondering if that's ok. I also kind of had to make myself get sick at one stage..as far as I can remember..so possibly the blood was from my throat getting a little scratched by my fingernails..??

I'm reallyreallyreallllylylylylyly sorry if this post was triggering to anyone,I'm not really thinking at my straightest right now!!!

vomiting blood can be very serious in some cases and i suggest if it was more than just a spec that you seek medical advice. perhaps call NHS direct so they can ask you the relevant questions. it's probably nothing to worry about.. most likely just from the back of your throat. but it could be bleeding in your gut, an ulcer, a throat problem or loads of different things.

Depends whether it was red, shiny blood or dark, clumpy blood that tastes a bit metallic? If the latter you need to go to A&E RIGHT NOW. If it was the former it's most likely going to be that you threw up a lot and scratched the back of your throat a bit so it's not really anything to worry about but I am *not* a doctor, I only know this through years of bulimia (and various hospital trips when throwing up blood. This is what I was told by my doctor on the first occasion so I knew when to actually go into hospital) so ringing NHS direct or talking to your GP next time you see them might be a good shout.

Er also watch your poo If it has dark clumps in it again see a doctor ASAP.

No, it wasn't dark or clumpy, it was bright red and I don't think there was a lot of it.....it doesn't feel like it was very serious really :/

Maybe you have a stomach ulcer? The only way to truly find out what it was, is to go and see a doctor. Asking for medical advice on a forum for teens isn't the wisest thing to do..

Even if there wasn't a lot, I think you should still call your doctor to be on the safe side. It could be that you just scratched your throat up a bit, but it's better to be safe than sorry in this case. Vomiting blood can be serious, like Elle said.

Feel better!

Hey there,

I know that you don't feel as though this was 'very serious', but as it has been mentioned previously, throwing up blood can potentially be a very serious matter and even if you don't feel as though this was serious, you should get it checked out by a medical professional. The least I would do would be to call a medical hotline. It is important that this is investigated, just in case. It's better to be safe.

Take care.

Nah to be honest it's probably not, I just don't want to say "don't worry about it" because I'm not qualified to do that and don't want to feel responsible or whatever. It's the dark and clumpy stuff you have to watch out for.
