Diet, where to start? - August 23rd 2010, 08:02 AM

so basicly i've been searching the net for diet recipes and strict like diet rules that tell you what to eat, when and how to make the food. it has to be free.
Anyone know anything like that?
I seriously dont eat right, its either fast food, or just lots of random snacks.
need to loose serious weight.
and just dont know where to start or how to.

Why not just go on a sensible diet? You know what you are doing wrong, so cut out the junk food. Its little things like not having cheese on your pasta, having less soda and diet soda, less chocolate, home made cooking. Just check the calories on things. I can't talk because I have a problem too, but you don't need an exact diet to lose weight.

I like the gist of what you're saying, but I feel I should note that cheese is much more nutritious than pasta anyway. If anything OP should be taking the pasta off their cheese

eat healthy and make a food diary to keep track. Have boiled potatoes instead of mashed, eat lower fat cheese and cut out mayonaises etc. Why not do a lot of little changes instead of something drastic?

Basically everyone said it all.

Cut out the junk food, avoid fast food restaurants, and do little changes in your diet and lifestyle (water instead of soda type thing).

And it's a wonderful idea to keep a food diary. I've been doing it since the beginning of August and it has helped a lot - evaluating eating habits and noticing the bad food choices and counting calories (seeing how much I can eat and then burn off with cardio ).

Prevention.com has a lot of smoothie recipes as well as main dish stuff and snacks

That's a miracle.

I'd suggest not drinking soda unless you're at like, a restaurant with not many other non alcoholic options, or say a friends party. I did that and lost quite a bit of weight. If you want something fizzy, try seltzer (not club soda, make sure it has nothing else in it) and you can get flavors too. They're calorie free and sugar free and such. Don't go too crazy counting calories, you don't want to be obsessed. I'd say just cut out some junk food. If you tend to eat while watching tv, try to replace it with fruit as well as trying to avoid boredom eating. You can throw some exercise in there too

"'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.'
I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish.
'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.'
'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said.
'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'"

A healthy diet of fruits, veggies, and high protien foods with some basic excersise always helps, even if its walking or jogging, or even dancing. If you're concerned about your diet talk to your doctor about it, I used this site: http://caloriecount.about.com/ its basic, free, and its great when you're going out for meals because it has ALOT of restraunts listed and their menu's nutritional value.

I recently lost an awful lot of weight. I use cooking light. Just google it, a lot of the recipes are free and all of them have the nutrition info and most are healthy. Then a half an hour to an hour of exercise 5 to 7 times a week and no more than [Edit: Calorie numbers] calories a day. Thats what i did anyway.

Re: Diet, where to start? - August 26th 2010, 09:33 PM

A good start would be to stop eating pasta and potatoes for starts (not forever, just for the first month) they are high fat and carb and starchy. Which makes your body store fat if you don't use all the extra calories in the day. Start eating more fruits and veggies and high protein meats, liek chicken, turkey, fish, nothign wrong with steak either.
Instead of eating 3 big meals a day and then snacking throughout the day. Start eating 5 smaller meals aday of around [Edit: Calorie numbers] cals each meal. plus 2 smaller snack sometime in the day too keep them at about [Edit: Calorie numbers] cals better to have them be fruits or veggies or nuts for the smaller snacks in possible.
Eating this way actually keeps your body working all day long, boosts your metabolizium and keeps your energy levels up throughout the entire day.
Try and stop drinking alot of pop, and high sugar drinks. Of course water is best, or real fruit juices (they are kinda high in sugar but its natural sugar which the body can use better)
A good website to join up to for more advise and good food ideas and workout programs is www.beachbody.com

Hope this helped

I feel I should add to the above: Fruit juices really aren't much better than pop and the like. Dairy should be the only real calories you drink, and if you're in desperate need of weight loss you should really be limiting this too.

Re: Diet, where to start? - August 27th 2010, 01:00 AM

When I first started dieting, I took out late night snacking. THIS was a miracle for me Simply cutting out any food past dinner can make a huge difference. From there, I started planning what I'd eat every day. To some, that's a little too much, but for me, it kept things in control. Instead of trying to find what was easiest to make, or the most convenient store to run into, I had a plan and I kept to it. If you DO find yourself at a fast food place, opt for chicken or a salad if they have those.

Some foods I find healthy and tasty:
-Chicken
-Fish
-Yogurt
-Veggies (dipped in yogurt if you want)
-Fruits (Cinnamon on apples can be a tasty snack)
- Popcorn (If I am DYING for food and want to snack, I can make popcorn (using oil and kernels that I pop myself). I don't add any butter or anything, but it's a nice way to 'cheat')

Popcorn is pretty terrible weightloss food. Pretty much no macronutrients other than empty carbs, and basically no micronutrients. You'd be better off just having the oil or butter.

I wasn't suggesting it as a weight loss food... but more of an alternative to a chocolate bar Everyone gets cravings.

Fair enough I guess. Though if someone is at the point where they absolutely have to eat something unhealthy or they'll go crazy, I think they need to pull out a cookbook and learn how to make healthy stuff taste good. Something's going wrong if all healthy food tastes disgusting.

Hey,

Maybe start by eating healthy meals and exercise daily. Maybe make a daily plan. You dont *need* to diet, you can just eat healthy, exsercise and you will be okay. That is a great way of losing weight.
