Flu shot - September 22nd 2010, 05:01 AM

I'm debating over whether I should get a flu shot or not. Everyone keeps telling me I should since I work at a daycare center. But it's my understanding that the flu shot is a small dose of the flu virus. I don't wanna get sick from the shot just to not get sick again in the future.

you can not get sick from the shot it is a dead cell of the flu. some people feel a little sick after getting the shot but that is normal with all shot. As long as you do not have a egg allergy then you should be fine.

Hey! Before the flu shot is actually a killed version of the virus. The shot causes the build up of antibodies that learn how to fight off that specific type of flu virus. The flu virus changes every year so thats why you have to get a shot every year. If you come in contact with the virus your body will be completely defenseless to it because Its never seen the virus before. So, get the vaccine or flu mist I promise you won't regret it. It leaves your arm a tad sore for a day but it's better than getting the flu. Hope that helped!

As I recall, the flu vaccine has done almost NOTHING whenever I've gotten it. You still end up getting the flu much of the time.

Just as a warning: the mist can give you a very mild version (really mild stuff!) of the flu, since it is LIVE (not dead, just weakened).

Hey there,

The flu vaccine is a killed version of the influenza virus. Like any vaccine, there is a slim chance of you actually getting ill from it because you could come in contact with the germ before you body has enough time to create antibodies. The only thing getting the vaccine should do is keep you from getting the virus from the children because even if you have received the vaccine you could have the germ on your hands anyway.
