Having a tooth pulled out. - September 29th 2010, 07:18 PM

Tomorrow, I'm having a tooth pulled out, ready to have braces.Buy I'm terrified. I've never had a tooth pulled out.

Mum says they will numb it with a needle and I frickin hate needles. And she said it will still hurt anyway .

I'm reaaaly scared. Does it really hurt?!

Hey hon,

Getting a tooth pulled isn't all that bad. Before they inject you with Novocain they first use general anesthesia by numbing the area where they will inject you. When they pull it it doesn't hurt but after your mouth will be a little sore.

Um, well when I had my tooth pulled out it never hurt and I got numbed.

Everyone always told me the numbing needle would hurt but that part's always been fine for me whenever I've gone to the dentist.

I've gotten 8 teeth pulled within the course of 2 months (baby teeth that wouldn't come out). The Novocaine just kinda.. is a pinch then feels warm. Then you shouldn't feel anything, but if it does still hurt, you can get another shot of Novocaine (at least I did).

I've never been put under general anesthesia for just getting a tooth pulled though, and they pulled mine 4 at a time.

I've had two teeth pulled out and I'll be honest - anything that is going to numb the sensation or act as a pain relief; take it!! I didn't think it 'hurt' too much, but then again I did have something rubbed on as an anesthetic. Because it's in your mouth try and shut your eyes that way you wont be able to physically see the needle which might help. I'm not so good with the devils either! xD The thing I found worse was the sound. I don't know what I can suggest to make that any easy but sometimes it's better to be prepared for something. I hope it isn't as bad as you're thinking right now

no you'll definitely want the numbing injection! It's not that bad and it will only last a second and will make the whole thing a lot easier to deal with!

Yeah you def need the numbing injection, but as others have said they rub a little gel on it first. I also have a dental appointment tomorrow morning (urgh- 2 fillings plus one from last week where it came out already grr), and found when I went last week it was nowhere neaar as bad as I remembered/as it used to be. The numbing injection really does work so you shouldn't feel much. Try to relax and distract yourself- what worked for me was singing songs in my head/going through lyrics cos then I wasn't focussed on what the dentist was actually doing.

you'll definitely need the numbing injection. i doubt they'd pull it out without it, although they might if you refused to have the injection. it would be excruciatingly painful though.

honestly with the injection(s) it's not that bad at all. my advice would be take your ipod to distract you and keep your eyes closed.
