I spend too much time typing. - October 14th 2010, 06:37 PM

And I've hurt my hand, a lot. I type a lot everyday and I think that I've caused some damage to my left hand. My wrist is really hurting, and when I continue to type now I feel a strain and an ache in my hand. It hurts through my wrist and along the top of my hand, and my fingers feel like they're aching too.

It started last night, and I know it's just going to get worse because of the amount of time I spend typing

Is this serious? Has this happened to anyone else and is there anything I can do to ease the pain?

Thanks!

Sounds like carpel tunnel, which I believe you do have to go to a doctor for. But I don't think it's serious.

My mothers friend just had two operations because of that.

Can it just like, happen, and start to hurt? Or is it a build up? Because nothing had happened since last night.

Carpul tunnel or tendonitis. I have both. Just go to an urgent care facility or your primary doctors office.

Ive spend a lot of time typing. Ive kinda spent toooo much time on the computer since i was like 12. Its dying down now, but im left with the consequences of it.

Its nothing serious. Tendonitis is basically a stretched or torn tendon in your arm that can be painfull and hard to move your wrist or wherever the tendonitis is, in certain ways that you normally could.

Carpul tunnel... ehh im not entirely sure how to describe it, you could google it though and find out more about it.

I currently have to wear a brace on my right wrist as often as possible. (not constantly, but primarly when it hurts and when im sleeping so i can get it back to normal.). because i have carpul tunnel in both wrists, and tendonitis in my right (im right handed, and write stories constantly. and play guitar.... heh. im not very nice to my wrists. lol)

But yea. Just go to a doctor. you'll be fine. (:

Last night may have been when you pushed it over the edge.

How come you don't want to go to the doctors?

Hey there,

Yes, typing can do an awful lot of damage to your hands. You should ideally be taking a break every half an hour for around ten minutes from typing. Obviously, as this came on suddenly and only a couple of days ago, it's worth thinking of other things that could have caused it. It is highly unlikely for it to suddenly happen, as it's an injury that builds up over time. May I ask how your hands are feeling now? I'd recommend taking some time out of typing, and if it's a must ensure that you're giving your fingers a break every so often.

Don't hesitate to message me.
Marie.

My left hand is still hurting. I can't pick stuff up without a bit of pain and discomfort :/ And moving it a certain way hurts to, and generally it just aches. I've had no symptoms or discomfort prior to the other night, it literally just appeared.

I dislike the doctors But if it's not gone by Monday I guess I'll go in then.

I have this too. It goes away for awhile, but then it tends to come back, and then all that I do is have to wear the stupid brace. :/

I get it in both wrists sometimes, but my left wrist is the one that bothers me the most, and texting, typing and certain other things that i do with my hands starts it up. I have a really bad problem with popping my wrist when it hurts. My advice; don't do that. It's a bad habit now, and its compulsive.

But yeah, I would say just get a brace for now, and wear it most of the time, and see what that does for it.

Good luck. =]

I have carpel tunnel, and I just use a wrist brace for it.. Maybe try that?
