I'm boiling >.< - March 20th 2011, 11:28 PM

For the past few weeks I feel ridiculously hot every now and then :/ It has nothing to do with the heating in our house as my parents normally complain they're too cold when I turn the temperature down. I hate opening my window as night as bugs fly in it doesn't normally help me cool down anyway.

I've been sleeping in my underwear recently just to keep my temperature at a somewhat normal level.

It's not even Spring :| I shouldn't feel this hot.

Ordinarily I'd say maybe you're getting a cold, or a fever. I know when it's my time of the month, my thermostat goes all weird.

But if it's been a few weeks, that's a bit different.. Is it only at night? And if it's uncomfortable, you might want to call your doctor (or google your 'symptom' ) Try taking your temperature when you feel hot, too.

Good luck! Hope this gets resolved.

Well, the past few weeks where I am the weather has been getting better and I've not been wearing much to bed but since you live somewhere else I can't say for sure that's the reason.

Is it just at night, Ceilidh? Or does it happen sometimes during the day?

Do you think they could perhaps be hot flushes? I know typically hot flushes are associated with menopause but other things can cause them too and at your age it's unlikely that you'd be starting menopause.

Reasons for hot flushes other than menopause can be
- Anti-depressants/anti-anxiety medicines
- Alcohol
- Certain food additives

If they're not hot flushes (and even if they are) then I'd suggest going to a doctor to see what the problem is and see what advice they can give you.

Take care

I am now on 40mg of citalopram so it could well be the medication. It's not just a night, I'm really hot now :/ I think I may will make an appointment in the morning.

If it's not from the medications, I think the first thing a doctor would check is for hyperthyroidism because feeling hot is one of the characteristic signs of it. It's also important to check whether your body temperature is high or if it's normal so you're perceiving it to be high. If it's hyperthyroidism, you'll have an increased body temperature.

If it is from an infection, contrary to what so much media spews out, the fever is beneficial up to a certain point.

It's also important to know if you're having chills along with the increased heat because that's characteristic of an infection. It can be other things although infections are the most common and usually easiest to deal with.

Lastly, it could be a dietary reason, such as if you had a large amount of niacin/Vitamin B3. If it's lasting for days, it's probably not a niacin flush as they last a few hours max. So are you eating anything with high B3?

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
