Sciatica ? -
May 4th 2011, 07:45 PM
For about 2 months (maybe even a little bit more than that), i've been experiencing severe pain in my lower back/right hip and sometimes it's almost impossible to walk on it. At the moment I can just about hobble around but it hurts so bad.
Doctors said that it could be a trapped nerve, could be something wrong with the joint. An x-ray showed nothing so they're just sticking with the diagnosis of sciatica. All they are doing is giving me painkillers (which I don't want to take long-term) and even then codeine isn't helping much at all. Have any of you had this? How did it get treated? How long did you have it for? I really can't take much more of this pain. ![]() When your feet are made of stone And you're convinced that you're all alone Look at the stars, instead of the dark You'll find your heart shines like the sun |

I've never had it before myself but the NHS website usually has pretty good information on this type of stuff.
I did a quick search on there and it says that most of the time sciatica goes away on its own and in order to reduce the pain pain-killers, heat and ice pads and certain types of exercise are used. Here's the NHS site - http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/sciatic...roduction.aspx Take care and I hope it goes away soon. ![]() |

can you ask to be prescribed something stronger for the pain? also, are you on an Anti-inflammatory of some sort?
in the mean time i'd try heat packs or alternatively a hot water bottle does the same job. |

I've been on ibuprofen + codeine but my consultant at the hospital doesn't really want me on anything else.
This sucks, I've barely been able to walk today. ![]() When your feet are made of stone And you're convinced that you're all alone Look at the stars, instead of the dark You'll find your heart shines like the sun |

aw no, that's horrible.
when you're sitting down try having a cushion in the small of your back to give you more support. my mum had sciatica and she was told to do this. have you had any physio? I really hope it starts getting better soon, sounds really painful. x

Thankyou, I'll keep that in mind
![]() Seeing as the psych ward are barely doing anything about it, when I get discharge I'll get put back to the GP so maybe he'll refer me for physio x ![]() When your feet are made of stone And you're convinced that you're all alone Look at the stars, instead of the dark You'll find your heart shines like the sun |
